IKEA’s Return Policy is Generous
The IKEA return policy is very generous as they allow their customers to get a full refund on unopened IKEA products within 365 days, along with a proof of purchase. Additionally, customers are eligible to get a full refund on opened products within 180 days, with a proof of purchase, if they are not used.
Per the IKEA return policy: No refunds or exchanges items that have been altered in any way. If the merchandise you are trying to return is damaged, dirty or stained your return will be denied.
Additionally, the following items will not be refunded or exchanged: custom made countertops, plants, fabric that has been sliced or cut, and “as-is” products.
Important Return Policy Info
- Customers returning items for an exchange or refund MUST bring their proof of purchase (receipt) and a valid government issued ID such as a driver’s license.
- Refunds are issued back to the same payment method used to make the purchase.
- If the item being returned is partly damaged a replacement part may be shipped from one of IKEA’s stores. Visit an IKEA store nearest you with your damaged item and receipt for the fastest resolution. If unable to visit an IKEA store simply contact their support staff at 888-888-4532.
- IKEA’s return policy allows up to 90 days to exchange for another mattress.
- IKEA Planning Studio or IKEA Pick Up Point sites do not accept returns. Any customers closest to the IKEA location in Queens, New York return your items to the IKEA located in Brooklyn, New York.
- If the original transaction included a promotional item, and does not return this item, the original amount paid for this item will be deducted from the refund.
In-Store Purchase Returns
To return an in-store purchase simply go back to the nearest IKEA location and go to the Exchanges & Returns counter for further instructions. If you had items delivered from and IKEA store and you need to schedule a pickup, please contact IKEA’s Customer Support.

Online Purchase Returns
Online purchase returns are handled by going to an IKEA store nearest you speaking with someone at the Exchanges & Returns department. Once at the store follow the signs to the Returns desk to get your return started. For those of you whose return requires a pickup, call the Customer Support Center.
Exchanges
We like IKEA’s return policy because it makes exchanging items easy and straight forward. Both in-store and online purchases are handled the same way. To exchange an item, simply bring the item to be returned, your receipt or order confirmation if purchased online, a photo ID, and the payment method used to make the purchase.
Damaged or Missing Orders
As with exchanges, IKEA’s return policy has a simplified process for handling damaged or missing orders. Just find the closest IKEA store to you and do one of the following below depending on your situation:
- Missing item: bring your order confirmation
- Damaged item: bring damaged item along with proof of purchase
- Need help with anything else: call 888-888-4532 and speak to one of their agents
